Sequoia national park & Greece
June 27, 2025 - Monterey greeted us with 14°C and thick coastal fog, so we had breakfast at Denny’s while discussing our next move. Just 1.5 hours later, driving straight, wathing vegetables groving along the road, we found ourselves back in the real Californian summer – close to 40°C. After the mountain road, dry as a dessert, many cows, farms. We took a short break in Coalinga, a small town with oil feilds around it, coffee, pie with a big scoop of vanilla ice cream of course. Afterwards, we did a bit of clothes shopping.
Our journey continued towards the southern entrance of Sequoia National Park. From there, a winding road took us up to around 2200 metres above sea level to visit the General Sherman Tree – officially the largest tree in the world by volume. This giant sequoia is about 84 metres tall and over 11 metres in diameter at the base. Scientists estimate it to be around 2,200 years old. Just imagine what stories it could tell if it could talk.
After a fantastic walk among these ancient giants, we drove back down the mountain and found an RV campsite nearby. Dinner was from a cosy little food truck serving delicious Greek food – the perfect end to another epic day on the road.
