Låtefossen, Hardangerfjord & the Apple Orchards

  • that flows right under the old stone bridge near Odda. Surrounded by steep green cliffs, it creates a magical and dramatic scene, especially after rain.

Driving through this region takes you high into the mountains, with roads that feel almost like crossing a ski slope – offering wide views of valleys and peaks, and a sense of being deep inside Norway’s raw landscape.

Hardangerfjord is known as the ‘Queen of the Fjords’, stretching 179 km inland and lined with picturesque villages and endless apple orchards. In spring and summer, the slopes are covered in white blossoms or heavy with red and green apples.

Here you meet the apple farmers of Hardanger – Mr. Applemaker himself. Generations of families have tended these orchards, creating some of Norway’s best juice and cider. Many farms have small shops where you can taste their products, often pressed just hours before. Visiting them offers not only a taste of fresh apples but a glimpse into the quiet rhythm of fjord life and a tradition deeply rooted in this beautiful landscape.
