Driving Down Ørnevegen & Snow at Djupvatn
April 17, 2025 - We drove down Ørnevegen (The Eagle Road), and it was truly breathtaking. The road winds its way down the steep mountainside with sharp turns, offering panoramic views over Geirangerfjord far below. From each bend, we could see the deep blue fjord surrounded by green cliffs and waterfalls cascading down into the valley – it felt like driving through a fairytale.
As we continued towards Djupvatn, the landscape changed from green to pure white. Along the road, snow was piled up several metres high, even though it was summer. At Djupvatn itself, the lake shone a beautiful clear blue ice, framed by the snow-covered peaks all around. The contrast between the bright blue ice covered lake and the white snow made the place look almost unreal – a silent, magical world high in the mountains. The Vevor diesel heater did a great job that night, the roof top tent was warm and cosy.
